Shooting outside Southcenter Mall injures 1

Tukwila police and medics responded to the parking lot outside of Nordstrom on Saturday afternoon.

TUKWILA, Wash. — One boy was injured in a shooting outside Southcenter Mall on Saturday afternoon, Nov. 25, according to the Tukwila Police Department

Police responded to the parking lot outside of the Nordstrom store for reports of a shooting at around 2 p.m. on one of the busiest shopping weekends of the year. A boy was struck by gunfire after a reported parking dispute, Tukwila police said on social media. 

King County Medic One treated the boy at the scene and he was transported to the hospital. The victim's exact age is unknown, although police referred to the victim as a juvenile male. 

In past years around the time of the Thanksgiving holiday, Southcenter has been the site of gun violence. 

On Nov. 18, 2022, Chris and Mary Wesolowicz were returning to their vehicle after shopping to find an attempted car theft. The suspects shot the couple, injuring Mary and killing Chris. 

On Nov. 24, 2021, the day before Thanksgiving, Jashawna Hollingsworth was spending a day at the Southcenter Mall with her boyfriend and his family. Both she and her boyfriend were shot; Hollingsworth died from her injuries while her boyfriend survived his injuries. 

KING 5 has reached out to Southcenter's parent company for comment on Saturday's shooting and mall safety measures.
