SEATTLE — The SIFF Cinema Egyptian in Seattle's Capitol Hill neighborhood is closed for the foreseeable future after a significant pipe leak on the main line occurred on Tuesday night.
The leak happened inside the Seattle Central College Fine Arts Building, where the Egyptian is housed. The closure is expected to last several months.
The leak "caused damage to multiple floors leading to the closure. Continued assessment of the damage and subsequent repairs will all be led and managed by Seattle Colleges Fine Arts."
Many scheduled screenings and events will now take place at the SIFF Film Center and SIFF Uptown.
People in line at SIFF Uptown expressed sadness over the closure of the Egyptian.
"I'm really sad because I really like the feel of the place. It's a nice small theater and it's got character to it and it always shows great films," said John Heil.
Heil and his family say the SIFF community is one to celebrate and cherish.
"I like foreign films. I like not just American film culture. We got to live overseas for a long time and it's just a chance to see other places again," Heil said.
SIFF told KING 5 they will continue to share more information at siff.net as they learn about the extent of the damage and the timeline to reopen.
