SEATTLE — An IT issue led to "significant disruption" and a ground stop at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport for Alaska Airlines flights on Sunday night, according to the company.
As of 10 p.m., the company says the issue has been resolved, but that there will be remaining impacts on Alaska Airlines operations and travelers.
"Earlier this evening we experienced an IT issue that caused significant disruption to our operation - including delayed flights," the company told KING 5. "We also requested a ground stop at SEA so we could clear the aircraft congestion on the ground."
Multiple customers told the company they couldn't check into their flights on the app and website.
One traveler, who shared a video with KING 5 showing long lines at Alaska Airlines' baggage check desks, called it "chaos" at the airport. She said that the system that prints tickets for checked bags is down.
Around 9 p.m. Sunday, Alaska Airlines wrote on X that they are experiencing a "significant IT outage."
Approximately an hour later, the company said the issue was under control.
The airline did not specify what type of IT issue was involved in the incident.
"The issue has been resolved, but we expect residual impacts to our operation," Alaska Airlines said in a statement. "We sincerely apologize to our guests who are impacted and are working to get all our guests to their destinations."
