Six-year-old boy killed in Lake Goodwin plane crash identified

Jacob Jeter, a student at Fidalgo School in Anacortes, was killed Saturday after a small plane crashed on Lake Goodwin.

SNOHOMISH COUNTY, Wash. -Investigators identified a young boy killed Saturday when a float plane he was in crashed on Lake Goodwin.

Jacob Jeter, 6, was trapped afterthe planeflipped while landing Saturday afternoon. His father, who was piloting the plane, was rescued.

Rescuers estimated that Jeter was underwater for 25 minutes in 41-degree water before he was freed from his seatbelt.

Emergency workers tried to resuscitate him but he was pronounced dead at Providence Regional Medical Center in Everett.

Jeter attended Fidalgo School in Anacortes, where district staff said they were helping family and friends cope with the tragedy.

Jacob was a bright and shining star in his first grade classroom at Fidalgo School.He loved life and each day walked into the classroom with a big smile, eager to learn. Jacob was passionate about nature and longed to be outdoors. He was a gifted artist and was proud of the masterpieces he created.Most of all, he was loved by all of his classmates and he loved them all, in return. His light will continue to shine in the hearts of all who knew him, Jacob's teacher, Patty Johnson, said in a statement.

The cause of the plane crash is unknown, but Federal Aviation Administration investigators said an extended wheel from the plane's gearsmay be a possible cause.
