Southbound I-5 reopens in Marysville after fatal crash caused hours-long backup

The crash involves multiple vehicles, including a motorcycle, according to Washington State Patrol Trooper Kelsey Harding.

MARYSVILLE, Wash. — Southbound Interstate 5 has reopened after being completely blocked in Marysville following a fatal collision. 

The accident involved multiple vehicles, including a motorcycle, according to Washington State Patrol Trooper Kelsey Harding. 

Traffic was being diverted to the exit onto 172nd Street Northeast at milepost 206 near Smokey Point. 

Around 5:45 a.m. Tuesday, the Washington State Department of Transportation said the backup had stretched all the way to Arlington. An update around 6:15 a.m. said the backup had reached 4 miles.

Tow trucks have arrived on scene to begin helping clear the roadway. A motorcyclist was speeding according to authorities and was hit by a semi-truck, killing the motorcyclist.

The roadway eventually reopened just after 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday.
