Teen boy driving stolen Kia accused of hitting, killing driver on SR 7 in Spanaway

A man was trying to make a U-turn across all lanes of traffic when the teen who state patrol said was speeding struck his car.

SPANAWAY, Wash. — A 14-year-old boy is accused of hitting and killing a Spanaway man in a crash on State Route 7 on Sunday.

The crash happened at about 2:55 p.m. near 211th Street Court East in Spanaway, according to Washington State Patrol (WSP).

A 50-year-old man, identified as Christopher J. Hall, was driving southbound on SR 7 in the first lane. A 50-year-old Spanaway woman was a passenger in the car.

A 14-year-old Tacoma boy was driving southbound in the second lane. The car – a 2021 Kia Sportage – was stolen, and the 14-year-old was speeding, according to WSP.

Hall tried to make a U-turn across all lanes of traffic, and the 14-year-old struck Hall’s car.

The passenger in Hall’s car was taken to St. Joseph Medical Center in Tacoma. The 14-year-old was taken to Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital in Tacoma with serious injuries.

Both vehicles were totaled and the roadway was blocked for 5.5 hours.

The cause of the crash is under investigation, according to WSP. Potential charges are pending investigation.
