DES MOINES, Wash. -- Charges have been filed against four teenage boys at Mount Rainier High School in Des Moines for raping two other students during a school trip in Seattle.
According to probable cause documents filed this week, the incident happened in October 2015 during a DECA student conference at the downtown Sheraton hotel. A group of around 24 students from Mount Rainier High School participated in the conference, which included multiple high schools in the area. The trip was planned for three days and two nights, and students were monitored by adult chaperones.
Documents reveals two 15-year-old female students were invited to a party at the room of the four teenage boys, two 17-year-olds and two 18-year-olds. The girls were acquainted with the boys, but were not friends or socialized in the same circles.
When the girls arrived, the four suspects and two other males were in the room. The girls were each given two shots of different alcohol, and all of the boys were drinking as well. One of the female victims says after she drank the beverage, she felt "totally out of it." She began walking but could not keep herself up. The other girl also described feeling the same.
Court documents say the sexual assaults happened after the girls consumed alcohol provided by the teenage boys.
The girls returned to their room the next morning and continued with the conference, where one of the boys told the girls to keep what happened a secret.
Both girls told their families later that day and went to the hospital. That's when the incident was reported to police.
Rape tests were conducted and sent to labs.
The two 18-year-olds, Donnie Ray Moore Jr. and Keegan Josiah Tarabochia, are charged as adults with third degree rape and supplying liquor to a minor. The other two boys are minors and are being charged with similar crimes in Juvenile Court. Their arraignments are scheduled for February 24.
Highline School District officials say they are aware of the situation and are working in conjunction with Seattle Police Department on the case.
