Tacoma Deputy Police Chief Paul Junger placed on administrative leave

Paul Junger was placed on leave by Chief Avery Moore.

TACOMA, Wash. — Tacoma's deputy police chief is on paid administrative leave pending the results of an investigation into allegations made against him.

Detective William Muse, a public information officer for the Tacoma Police Department, confirmed that Deputy Chief Paul Junger is on leave.

"It is the policy of the City of Tacoma to encourage its employees to report any allegations of improper actions by City officers or employees," a statement to KING 5 reads. "However, because this is a personnel issue, what the city can release to the public is limited."

An investigation into the allegations will be conducted. Any disciplinary action will be made public, according to the statement from Muse.

Junger was placed on leave by Chief Avery Moore.

This is the second time top brass from within the Tacoma Police Department has been placed on leave in the past two months.

Moore was placed on administrative leave at the end of September. It turned out he was placed on leave as the city conducted a fact-finding mission related to Moore's "personal use of a city asset and statements relating to that use." City Manager Elizabeth Pauli did not go into specifics.

However, Pauli found that Moore did not intend to be misleading in his use of said "city asset" but that the initial use, cost reimbursement and "statements made around the use and reimbursement" did not meet expected standards of professional judgment.

Moore was back on the job by early October after receiving a "verbal counseling."
