Tacoma Police released a photo of the suspect's vehicle involved in a hit-and-run that struck an 8-year-old boy.

The hit-and-run occurred before 8 p.m. Sunday, a couple blocks north of Boze Elementary School.

J. Isabel says his girlfriend's son, Maurly Velasquez Gomez, was playing with a soccer ball in the yard. The family was outside when the ball went into the street and Maurly went after it.

Isabel said it happened so quick. A car hit Maurly and kept going.

"I heard someone screaming, so I ran out the door," said neighbor Nic Loewen.

He called 911 while another neighbor performed CPR.

Monday afternoon, family and friends were at the hospital where Maurly was in the ICU. His leg is broken in two places and he has internal injuries. His family says he could be in the hospital for up to two weeks.

Back where it happened, neighbors are concerned.

"The speed limit sign is right there, and it is 30," Loewen pointed out. "I would say I've seen cars going up to 50 miles per hour, especially going down this hill."

"It is not OK what he did, to just leave. He should have stayed," said Isabel.

Family members describe seeing a black, sedan-style vehicle.

Tacoma police say they do not have a full vehicle description to pass along yet. Anyone with information about the hit-and-run is asked to call police.

The family has started a GoFundMe to help pay for medical expenses.
