TACOMA, Wash. – A mental health patient accused of assaulting several people and leading police on a car chase through Tacoma is in custody.
According to police, the Comprehensive Life Resources patient became agitated with at least two employees. The initial altercation, which left one employee hospitalized, led to a carjacking near the facility that prompted an officer to open fire at the vehicle as it drove away.
Police searched for the man on Interstate 705, but lost him when he began to drive the wrong way on the freeway.
He was eventually caught about a half hour outside of the Tacoma city limits.
The CEO of Comprehensive Life Resources confirmed the man was a patient of the facility. Two employees were injured, along with a third person who was the carjacking victim. The employee who was hospitalized suffered injuries to the eyes.
