Non-profit helping Tacoma youth through skateboarding at risk of closing

Alchemy Skateboarding has been helping Tacoma kids for six years, but it's now in danger of closing due to a lack of funding.

A Tacoma non-profit that uses skateboarding to help kids going through tough times has fallen on hard times of its own.

Taylor Woodruff and his friends started Alchemy Skateboarding six years ago. Their mission is simple – enhance the local skateboarding community while providing a safe future for youth in Tacoma.

Woodruff believes his program can have a lasting impact on the kids who are a part of it.

However, like for many non-profits, Alchemy is having trouble funding their operation as costs continue to rise. The threat of Alchemy closing its doors has become very real.

Woodruff created a GoFundMe account in hopes of securing additional donors to help with operation costs that run up to $15,000 a month.

It's just Woodruff and one other person who account for Alchemy's "staff," but many volunteers help however they can to keep it going.
