Pierce County Sheriff's deputies shoot, kill suspect after foot chase in South Tacoma

Deputies reported that shots were fired at around 1:45 a.m.

TACOMA, Wash. — A Pierce County Sheriff's deputy shot and killed a suspect after a foot chase in south Tacoma early Monday morning.

Graveyard shift deputies were on patrol when they saw a group gathered outside a closed smoke shop. At around 1:16 a.m., deputies confronted the subjects and advised dispatch that they had arrested one person because they had an outstanding felony warrant.

Half an hour later, deputies advised that they were chasing another subject heading eastbound on the train tracks. The suspect pulled out a gun, according to deputies. Two deputies then fired shots at the suspect. It's unknown if the suspect fired shots at deputies, according to Pierce County Sheriff's Sgt. Darren Moss.

Deputies administered CPR but the suspect was pronounced dead at the scene. The Pierce County Force Investigation Team is investigating the shooting.
