TACOMA, Wash. -- It's a project that has been in the works for nearly a decade on a Superfund site, once home to the Asarco Smelter Plant. The Point Ruston development sits on both Ruston and Tacoma city limits.
The project will include condos, a movie theater, restaurants and a retail space once completed, but developers said Ruston City leaders have been delaying building permits and standing in the way of progress. It's why Point Ruston has filed a petition to be annex the 42-acres sitting in Ruston by the City of Tacoma.
"For years, we've worked and Tacoma has worked to try and lead on this project and try to help Ruston along, but it's come to this point in time of this project where we can't wait any longer," said Loren Cohen. "The time is now that we get approvals and we get our permits and we get the ability to move forward unencumbered by the local bureaucratic process."
Ruston City leaders have not publicly commented on the issue, but said they're drafting a response.
