TACOMA, Wash. — Prosecutors announced the suspect in the Tacoma bar shooting is expected to be in court on Tuesday afternoon.
Two people were killed in the shooting and three other people were hurt over the weekend. On Sunday afternoon, a 28-year-old man turned himself in at police headquarters, according to Tacoma police.
The suspect has been booked into Pierce County Jail and faces two counts of first-degree murder and three counts of first-degree assault.
Tacoma police say early Sunday morning, around 1:30 a.m., in the 2700 block of 6th Avenue, five people total were shot. Detectives still don't have information as to what occurred before the shooting and details on the dispute between the suspect and one of the victims.
"It is not just the people who were shot and injured at the scene. It is their family members and their friends that have to deal with the fact that they lost someone or almost lost somebody in a senseless act of violence,” said Detective William Muse on Sunday.
At the Alleycat Patio and Lounge, a memorial was growing on Monday with flowers and photos in honor of the victims.
"Nobody deserves to be a victim of gun violence,” said one woman who stopped by to pay her respects. “It is tragic, it is sad, and it needs to stop."
This latest homicide at the Alleycat Patio and Lounge brings the total number of deaths by homicide in Tacoma to 27 this year. Police said there were 42 homicide deaths in 2022.
