'If I only had more time, I could so so much more.'
'If I could work more hours, or take on more projects, I could be more successful at my job.'
These are thoughts many of us tell ourselves. Author Janelle Bruland from Birch Bay, Washington said they're nothing but lies.
"You can get off of this treadmill. You don't have to be overwhelmed, overworked, over-committed and overwhelmed. You don't have to buy into society's version of success," she said.
In her book The Success Lie, Bruland said you don't have to sacrifice your sanity to reach your highest potential.
Here are four ways you can do to overcome feeling overwhelmed and achieve peace of mind:
1. Determine what's truly important to you and then live by those values.
2. Recognize what's gotten in the way of your success and take transforming steps to increase mindfulness, improve your skills and become a better (and happier) version of yourself.
3. Discover strategies to eliminate over-work, over-commitment and feelings of being overwhelmed.
4. Take back your life! Stop allowing societal pressures to tell you what matters.
