Keanna Krueger starts her day at 4:15 a.m. The 15-year-old heads to the gym for an hour of weight training before school.
"The hardest part is probably waking up and getting out of bed," Keanna said.
After finishing her classes at Cavelero Middle School, the 9th grader heads back to the gym for another 2-3 hours of high-intensity workouts. Keanna's grueling training schedule spans six days a week.
Her hard work is paying off.
Keanna is a rising star in the CrossFit community, with sponsorship and a growing Instagram following. She recently competed in an online qualifier against hundreds of girls her age. Keanna finished in the top 15 worldwide, earning a spot in the Wodapalooza CrossFit Festival in Miami, January 17-20.
CrossFit is a high-intensity fitness program that incorporates aspects of gymnastics, weightlifting, running, swimming and other sports.
Keanna is following in her family's footsteps. Her dad is a CrossFit coach. Her mom and older sister also train. Keanna started six years ago after tagging along with them to their classes.
"I would work out on the side because I was too young. Then they finally let me join in the class," Keanna explained.
She never looked back. These days, Keanna trains at Remedy Athletics in Marysville, where she can deadlift 280 pounds and back squat 235 pounds. Her work ethic also shows at school, where she excels in cross country and track and earns high grades.
"I have all As, except for a B in Spanish. I think it's just my mindset I get from my parents. They're always telling me to keep a good mindset and remember what this is all for," she said.
Keanna's goal for 2019 is to compete in the Reebox CrossFit Games, a competition she just missed out on last year, after finishing 25th overall in the Girls (14-15) division.
"Ultimately, I think it made me stronger to go through that disappointment and I am now more focused than ever to make it to the CrossFit Games this year," she wrote in an Instagram post.
Being on the older side of the age bracket, Keanna feels pretty confident in her chances this year.
For now, her focus is on Wodapalooza. Keanna leaves for Miami on January 16th. Her parents created an online fundraiser to help cover the costs of registration, airfare, hotel, and rental car.
