The youth tackle team Heir is ranked eighth in the country and heads to Canton, Ohio this week to play for the national championship at the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
The team of eight-year-olds from around the Puget Sound area stopped by Take 5 with their coach to talk about what this means to them.
Coach Reggie Jones created Heir Sports Academy after five years in the NFL, and the entire program is coached and staffed by NCAA and NFL alumni.
Jones said the program is about so much more than football. “Heir” stands for Heart, Education, Integrity, and Resiliency: The goal of the program is to foster leadership and teach kids the value of commitment and what it means to be a part of a team.
“Being able to pour back into these kids and allow them to be resilient young kings – turning from young boys to young kings – is extremely important to me,” Jones said.
We’ll be checking in to see how they do this week in the national championship.
