Teen dies from injuries suffered in Renton shooting

A 16-year-old suspect is in custody, according to the Renton Police Department.

RENTON, Wash. — A teenager in Renton died Sunday after another teenage boy shot him on Saturday afternoon.

Shortly after 4 p.m., a 16-year-old boy called 911 and reported to police that he shot someone, according to the Renton Police Department. The shooting took place in a home near the 600 block of Camas Avenue Northeast. 

At the home, officers found a 15-year-old boy with life-threatening injuries from the shooting, police said. He was taken to Harborview Medical Center. Police said the boy died from his injuries Sunday.

The 16-year-old boy is in custody and police are working to determine if, or how, the two teens knew each other. Authorities did not say if the shooting was accidental or deliberate. 

Renton police detectives are now investigating the shooting as a homicide.

Police said the suspect is expected to make his first court appearance on Monday.
