SEATAC, Wash. — Sex trafficking victims have few places to turn in the Seattle area to escape life on the streets.
That’s why The Genesis Project is offering “A Night of Hope,” a major auction and fundraiser Saturday night.
The Genesis Project has helped more than 500 girls and women break free from their abusers. It manages a drop-in center, assists with housing and hygiene and offers treatment services.
The nonprofit said the victims of commercial sexual exploitation are often underage girls whose services are advertised by abusive sex traffickers on social media and other web-based platforms.
The Genesis Project was founded by King County Sheriff’s Deputy Andy Conner. On patrols in the SeaTac area, he would often encounter victims who wanted out of “the life” but found few resources to make an exit. Even as a law officer, he didn’t see many options that truly helped the victims.
“A Night of Hope” raises money to provide victims with immediate shelter and services, instead of putting them on a waiting list.
The auction is at 5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 2 at the Seattle Airport Marriott. More information about tickets or how to donate can be found on The Genesis Project website.
