Tom Douglas restaurant Serious Pie reopens as Serious TakeOut during coronavirus pandemic

In addition to pizzas, you'll also find baked goods from Dahlia Bakery, cocktail kits, and sandwiches at the Ballard warehouse.

SEATTLE — Chef Tom Douglas is working to get his business back up and running by opening up Serious TakeOut -- a twist on the Chef's restaurant 'Serious Pie.' The venture is currently open Monday through Friday.

On the menu, in addition to several pizza options, you'll find baked goods from Dahlia Bakery, cocktail kits and sandwiches. They are continuing to promote and practice social distancing with markers on the ground to help customers abide by the six feet apart rule.

Last month, the famed restaurateur announced he was closing 12 of his 13 restaurants because of COVID-19. He went from having more than 800 employees to just 5.

"We were all laid off, but I'm doing my part to support the restaurant community," said John Murphy, General Manager of Daniel's Broiler.
"[Douglas] is a great restauranteur and he does a lot of great things for the city, so we're here to support him."

Douglas is hoping he can generate enough revenue to keep his small team in place.

"It's heartbreaking and it's amazing all at the same time," said Douglas. "That's the hardest thing for me, is to see the people that we had to put on the street. I know it happened all over, but it still tears up my heart. That's where I'm hurting and I know they're hurting in the same way."
