The Tukwila School District will have its third superintendent in one year. The district announced the termination of interim superintendent Dr. Judith Berry.

The Board of Directors released a statement on Tuesday saying, "Our actions this evening are intended to demonstrate the Board’s desire for the future for our School District that will be characterized by trust, transparency, responsibility, and progress. It is our sincere hope that we can regroup and take our first steps on a new path, together."

The shake-up comes as Tukwila educators remain in contract negotiations with the districts.

In 2017, then-superintendent Dr. Nancy Coogan resigned just before the start of the school year. She cited 'family matter' as the reason for her departure. However, a KING 5 investigation raised questions about Coogan's spending on out-of-state consultants.

Dr. Judith Berry had worked as a consultant before taking the interim role in Coogan's absence. The Tukwila School District announced superintendent duties will now be handled by Dr. JoAnne Fabien, Director of the Department of Teaching and Learning for the Tukwila School District.
