MARYSVILLE, Wash. - It is a cause that caught the attention of Zoe Galasso's mother, Michelle. After she lost her daughter in a school shooting at Marysville Pilchuck High in October, she decided to donate Zoe's artwork to Curacy's Healing Hearts campaign. Curacy's owner, Mel McGhee, calls it an honor.
"She just said it is nice to be able to have one more way to honor my baby," said McGhee as she held the 'Make Love, Not War' t-shirt made from one of Zoe's sketches.
The Healing Hearts Fundraiser will sell that design along with other t-shirts featuring the artwork of MPHS students and community members. The t-shirts cost $24, and the proceeds go to the MPHS Recovery Fund, according to McGhee. The fund is being managed by the Rotary Education Foundation. Learn more about the fund.
McGhee's business is blocks away from the high school. After five students died, she and her employees were devastated. They did not want to make t-shirts about the tragedy, but instead decided to focus on the future.
"We are never going to forget those people that we lost. We are never going to forget that moment, but we can't stay in that moment," said McGhee.
