The Washington State Transportation Commission discussed several baseline toll scenarios for the State Route 99 tunnel on Tuesday.
The Commission looked at a baseline toll of $1.75 during the morning peak hours, $2.50 during the evening peak hours, and $1.50 during off-peak hours.
However, the Commission also asked for different options for toll rates before making a final decision. The toll that goes into effect when the tunnel opens in late 2018 could change based on traffic data and expected revenue.
The state must raise $200 million in tolling revenue for the multi-billion dollar project, as set by the Legislature in 2012.
The toll rates are set by the Commission, not by the Washington State Department of Transportation.
