KENT, Wash. — Two women accused of assault in a road rage incident a month ago faced a judge Thursday.
Dashcam footage captured what Chris Garibaldi and his wife encountered on July 30. They were traveling on State Route 518, near the entrance to the airport when a vehicle almost hit them. State troopers said from there it escalated. Garibaldi's 77-year-old wife was punched through an open window as she sat in the passenger seat.
Garibaldi told the judge Thursday about how his wife is doing.
"She now needs 24/7 care,” Garibaldi said. "After being punched in the side of the head my 77-year-old wife was diagnosed with a concussion subsequently her baseline cognitive awareness is drastically lower. She did not recognize me in the following days."
The defendants, Shalynn Dual and Weldon Carey, were in court too. They were charged with assault and unlawful gun possession because investigators said Garibaldi had a handgun in a holster that fell out during the struggle. Court documents said the defendants drove off after Garibaldi was hit by their vehicle and knocked to the ground.
Garibaldi asked the court to consider what he and his wife went through before deciding on bail.
The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges. The court set bail at $75,000 for Carey and $150,000 for Dual.
