FEDERAL WAY, Wash. — Santa Claus is coming to town. More specifically, Santa is coming to Federal Way, thanks to one Waste Management driver.
Nic Greer has been working for the company for 18 years. He decided he wanted to bring some Christmas cheer to his routes, and started dressing up as Santa a year after he was hired.
He started off with a Santa suit from the store, but then he said his mother made sure he stepped out in style.
“My Mom, God bless her, she’s an amazing seamstress,” he said. “She started sewing my suit for me, so everything but the beard and the hair, she sews, and she’s been making my suit ever since. As a matter of a fact this is a fresh one this year!”
Greer pulled out the red suit and beard about two weeks before Christmas, and made sure everyone on his routes gets a look at him.
But Greer said it’s not just kids that get excited when St. Nic makes an early stop on their street.
“Sometimes I’ll have people who aren’t even my customers, they’re just driving down the road and go, hey can I take a picture?” he said. “It stops whatever they have in their life going on and it brings them joy for that moment, which is awesome.”
During rugby season, Greer swaps out the red suit and boots for a blue jersey and fins, and works as the Seattle Seawolves’ mascot, Rucky.
But no matter which suit he’s wearing, his goal is always the same.
“Dress-up’s just fun! I love doing that, it’s my own personality in doing stuff, I make people smile doing that, I make people smile doing this, it’s fun for me, and I just love doing it, man!” Greer said.
