HONG KONG, China. -- Hong Kong makes sense. So does Beijing. A visit to Chengdu includes a chance to see pandas.

Why are the nearly 100 students from Lincoln High School visiting Fuzhou on their trip to China?

Chinese President Xi Jinping is from that part of the country, and he invited the students to visit.

Fuzhou also has been a sister city of Tacoma's since 1994.

“This is very significant in terms of the long-lasting friendship and relationship between Fuzhou and Tacoma,” said City of Tacoma Urban Planner Lihuang Wung.

Tacoma and Fuzhou became sister cities in 1994.

Fuzhou built the pavilion for the Tacoma Reconciliation Park along the waterfront, honoring Chinese immigrants who were kicked out of Tacoma in 1885.
