PARKLAND, Wash. — A Pierce County woman is accused of stabbing her husband in the back, killing him, the night before Thanksgiving, according to charging documents.
Youngmi Shin, 52, was charged on Dec. 2 with one count of second-degree murder.
On Nov. 27, just hours before the Thanksgiving holiday, deputies responded to the 10200 block of Ainsworth Avenue South after a person reported a woman covered in blood had flagged them down.
At the scene, deputies found a man lying on the ground outside the home; both he and the woman were covered in blood, charging documents state. The woman identified the man as her husband.
The Pierce County Medical Examiner’s Office determined 62-year-old Jay Choi, the husband, died from multiple sharp force injuries and ruled his death a homicide.
Inside the home, deputies found broken items “strewn all over the floor of the house” and “visible signs of a struggle in both the residence and the outbuilding,” documents state. Blood was also found inside and outside both buildings on the property.
When interviewed by police, Shin told detectives that she and her husband had been married for eight years. Earlier in the night, the husband returned from work and went to the shop building on their property.
Shin told deputies that he asked her to buy a bottle of alcohol, which he drank most of over the course of the evening, charging documents state. The couple then got into an argument when the woman hid his car keys and told him to stop drinking.
Angered, he tried to leave the house and when she blocked the doorway, he grabbed her by the hair and punched her in the face, she told detectives. She fell to the floor and the husband walked outside, the documents state.
The woman then requested an attorney and did not share additional information about how the incident turned fatal.
Shin remains in jail and her next court appearance is scheduled for Jan. 2, 2025.
