One adult was shot fatally Thursday at a shooting at a high school in Maryland in the suburban Washington area, the Prince George's County Police Department said via Twitter.
A second person appeared to be wounded in the shooting at High Point High School in Beltsville, Md., police said.
That second person also was an adult, and the shooting took place around 5 p.m. ET, more than two hours after regular classes ended, according to WUSA and WJLA.
Emergency responders could not be reached by telephone but a voice mail message at the county police agency directed a caller to the organization's Twitter feed.
The situation appeared to be a domestic situation, the agency said.
There was no indication of an active shooter, BNO News reported.
High Point High School has almost 2,200 students and was founded in 1954.
Beltsville is 15.5 miles north of Washington and 28 miles south of Baltimore.
