The race to replace retiring Congressman Dave Reichert will be one of the most competitive midterm battles this fall, closely watched nationwide.
That’s because a Republican has held the 8th District Congressional seat since it was created, but this year Democrats believe they have a good chance to flip it.
It’s one of 23 districts that Hillary Clinton won in 2016, but it also re-elected a Republican to the U.S. House.
The 8th District is politically and geographically diverse, crossing the Cascades. It spans parts of eastern King County and south Pierce County, all the way to the east to parts of Chelan and Kittitas counties.
The Republican frontrunner in the race, Dino Rossi, a former state lawmaker and statewide candidate, is expected to easily make it through the upcoming top-two primary.
However, competing for that second spot, there are three Democratic frontrunners who joined KING 5 in studio: Jason Rittereiser, Dr. Shannon Hader. and Dr. Kim Schrier.
