SEATTLE — Track vote totals in statewide Initiative 2066 by county on KING 5's exclusive interactive map during the November general election in Washington state.
If passed, I-2066 would reinforce natural gas access in Washington state. If it fails, it would clear a path for utility companies to develop electrification plans.
An initial round of election returns is expected to be released shortly after 8 p.m. on Election Day. These returns are from ballots that were turned in early and tabulated.
Counties will release additional results in the days after the election as more ballots are counted. Additional results are typically released daily.
On the map below, click individual counties to see a breakdown of the results by county and see what percentage of people voted for and against the initiative.
I-2066 is one of four initiatives backed by the conservative group Let's Go Washington this election cycle. This measure would repeal a state law passed during the last legislative session that directs large utility companies to create a plan for developing electrification and assess the costs and benefits of replacing natural gas pipelines with electric alternatives. The initiative would also modify the state energy code to prohibit banning or discouraging natural gas use in buildings.
The state law was aimed at aligning energy companies with the state's goal of moving toward 100% clean energy.
Supporters of the initiative have called it an effort to "stop the gas ban." However, the new state law does not direct energy companies to stop providing natural gas.
