SEATTLE — Track vote totals in statewide Initiative 2117 by county on KING 5's exclusive interactive map during the November general election in Washington state.
If passed, I-2117 would repeal the Climate Commitment Act, which requires polluters pay into a fund to compensate for carbon emissions.
An initial round of election returns is expected to be released shortly after 8 p.m. on Election Day. These returns are from ballots that were turned in early and tabulated.
Counties will release additional results in the days after the election as more ballots are counted. Additional results are typically released daily.
On the map below, click individual counties to see a breakdown of the results by county and see what percentage of people voted for and against the initiative.
I-2117 is one of four initiatives backed by the conservative group Let's Go Washington this election cycle. The initiative would repeal a law that set a cap on overall carbon emissions and required businesses to purchase allowances equal to their covered greenhouse gas emissions. The cap is reduced over time, allowing fewer and fewer emissions.
Since 2023, revenue from the program has exceeded $2 billion to benefit environmental programs.
Supporters of the initiative have blamed the Climate Commitment Act for higher gas prices and allege the money from the program isn't being spent wisely.
Opponents of I-2117 believe that repealing the climate act will harm the state, resulting in more pollution and a cut in funding for environmental and transportation programs.
