OLYMPIA, Wash. — Nick Brown tells voters he has the experience needed to lead the Washington Attorney General’s Office.
He’s spent 22 years working as an private attorney, in the Army as a judge advocate general officer, as lead counsel for Gov. Jay Inslee, and as U.S. attorney for western Washington.
But he said his values also qualify him for the job.
”I think my values are where Washington values are in terms of the things that are priorities for most people. How do we make this a safer place to live? How do we protect our environment? How do we defend our democracy?” said Brown.
Brown, a Democrat, is running against Republican Pete Serrano for Washington attorney general.
He said addressing the state’s housing shortage would be a priority, if elected.
“If you have a housing company that's misleading consumers or potential consumers in their advertising, all those things actually impact housing supply and availability,” said Brown.
Brown said he would work to improve police morale across the state.
He would offer resources to local prosecutors and support legislation to increase the number of law enforcement officers in the state.
But Brown said if elected, he would also hold police accountable.
“Those are hard jobs. They're thankless jobs. They don't pay enough, and that's why I've had such a good relationship working with law enforcement communities,” said Brown, “But if we have a law enforcement officer that breaks the law, then we should investigate that or and charge it if it's appropriate,” said Brown.
