Voters will decide next month on whether to approve a new gun safety initiative to raise the age of purchase to 21 for semi-automatic rifles. Initiative 1639 would also create enhanced background checks for rifles to be in line with the checks for handguns in this state, and it would also create new standards for secure storage.
Debating the measure are Stephen Paolini, campaign manager for I-1639 in favor of the initiative, and Phil Shave of the Washington Arms Collectors in opposition.
