After President Biden's historic exit, Washington Democratic Party rallies behind Vice President Kamala Harris

With four months until the general election, chair Shasti Conrad said they're going to reach out and connect with voters to get them to the polls for Harris.

SEATTLE — Washington State Democratic Party Chair Shasti Conrad said President Joe Biden's historic decision to not seek reelection brought mixed emotions.

Since Biden's debate with former President Donald Trump, calls for him to drop out of the race intensified.

"A little grief at the decision of the president not to move forward, but a lot of excitement and energy that we will be voting for the first woman of color president," Conrad said.

Besides the historic nature of a Harris White House, Conrad said it's important they share with voters achievements and key priorities of the Biden Administration which will extend through a possible Harris Administration.

"Abortion rights are on the ballot, supporting climate change action," Conrad said. "We've had unprecedented job growth and low unemployment. We are continuing to show we are the party of freedom and of rights. We're standing up for women, LGBTQIA folks, standing up for people of color. We're doing the work."

Conrad said those aforementioned priorities and achievements would be scrapped if former President Donald Trump wins the White House.

"We just had a week of listening to the very dark vision of a future the Republicans under Trump are putting forth. We cannot turn back," Conrad said.

As the nation grapples with this historic moment, Conrad said she must pay respect to the current Commander In Chief who's had a prolific career in American politics.

"We commend President Biden for his hard decision," Conrad said. "I know that it could not have been easy."
