Jeff Lew is known as the "School Lunch Debt Dad." He made it his mission to erase school lunch debt in Washington schools so that no student goes hungry if they can't afford a meal.
Now Lew is expanding his mission to help federal workers across the country impacted by the government shutdown.
He launched a GoFundMe page called #ChefsForFed - Feed Furloughed Workers in DC. The money raised will help Chef José Andrés keep his kitchen stocked on Pennsylvania Ave., where he has served federal workers for decades.
Lew said on his site, "Thousands of families need our support. This isn’t political. This is about doing the right thing and making a small contribution to help our nation’s civil servants who are currently furloughed or working without pay."
The fundraiser set a goal of $70,000 and has so far raised more than $67,000. Click here to view the progress or learn how to donate.
