Tugboats guided a Washington state ferry into Lake Union on Monday.
The journey took the Elwha ferry through the Ballard locks with just seven feet to spare. The ferry is as wide as a 6-lane highway.
The 73-foot-wide ferry was towed from Bainbridge Island, through the Hiram M. Chittenden Locks, under the Ballard Bridge, Fremont Bridge, and Aurora Bridge.
The ferry will undergo maintenance at the Lake Union drydock.
The Elwha was built in San Diego in 1967 and re-built in 1991. The four-engine, diesel-electric vessel can carry 144 vehicles.
