STEHEKIN, Wash. — They say the journey is part of the adventure. It was an early start to catch Lady Express, a year-round ferry service to Stehekin, but it does not take too long to experience all the beauty that Lake Chelan has to offer.

“Once the color starts coming out, it's pretty beautiful,” said a crew member of Lady Express.

“It is a beautiful, relaxing place,” a passenger said.

The sun, the mountains and the deep blue waters make this ride unique for every passenger on the boat. After a beautiful ride that took a couple of hours, we finally arrived. Once you reach Stehekin, you’ll find yourself in a valley surrounded by peaks.

This is a magical place, especially at this time of the year. The fall weather is perfect for long walks and exploration.

“Fall is the most beautiful season, not as crowded,” said Mistaya Johnston from Stehekin Valley Ranch. “The weather is usually mild, perfect for hiking.”

There are many options when it comes to accommodations while visiting. Try the local staples during your stay, like Stehekin Pastry Company and enjoy lunch or dinner at the North Cascades Lodge restaurant. During the summer months, visitors are welcome to visit the Stehekin Valley Ranch for a delicious dinner in their rustic cookhouse. Most accommodations have a kitchen, but Stehekin does not have a grocery store, so it is essential to plan for your trip.

Here, you will find plenty of scenic trails, viewing points and peaks. There is also plenty to do outdoors such as hiking, fishing, horseback riding, bike rentals, kayak tours and much more.

There are so many reasons to visit this part of our state. So, just relax, escape the buzz of everyday life, and experience the North Cascades up close.
