Donate blood! Connect with music! | Local Lens Seattle

With blood supply levels at a critical all-time low, I'm teaming up with Bloodworks NW to highlight the need for volunteer blood donors.

SEATTLE — Music moves us.🎵 Blood bonds us.🩸

The power of music🎶 to connect us is as much a life force as the blood that moves through our bodies. With blood supply levels at a critical all-time low, I'm teaming up with Bloodworks NW and a number of local businesses to highlight the need for volunteer blood donors.

Bloodworks NW reports the local blood supply🌡 is running on fumes, as donations are down and patient needs for Type O blood and platelets are at their highest.

The goal of the new campaign "Music’s in our blood" is to recruit 20,000 new donors! I visited two local businesses that are participating in this incredible campaign, including Top Pot Doughnuts and Easy Street Records. Top Pot is launching a limited-edition doughnut for the month of October to get people excited about donating. It’s a blood orange flavor and let me tell you so zesty and delicious! I also tried their new Pumpkin Spice Latte (with syrup made in house) - HIGHLY recommend.

My next stop was in West Seattle at Easy Street Records. There they are sharing a new brew: Blood Honey from 3 Magnets Brewing Co. in Olympia, which showcases incredible photography from local band MudHoney.  One of the owners of 3 Magnets Brewing talked with me about her personal connection to this amazing cause.

You can purchase the beer at Easy Street Records of course and... Sub Pop Records retail store - SeaTac Airport (post-security), Chuck's Hop Shops in Greenwood, Central District, Seward Park, and Three Magnets Brewing Co. Pubhouse online delivered directly to your home for Washington state residents.

All eligible donors are urged to make an appointment to donate blood🩹. Find your nearest donation location here: http://wwww.bloodworksnw.org/music
