EvergreenHealth and Overlake Medical Center’s Eastside Neuro Institute provides comprehensive care for patients

The institute offers care for brain and spine tumors, movement disorders like Parkinson’s disease, headache/migraine pain, and more. Sponsored by EvergreenHealth.

Eastside Neuroscience Institute (ENI) offers care and treatment for a wide range of conditions to people on the Eastside. EvergreenHealth and Overlake Medical Center team up in this joint venture both common and uncommon conditions, from stroke care, to nerve and back pain, to Parkinson’s disease and many others.

“We’re really bringing world-class care to the Eastside,” said Dr. David Likosky, a board-certified neurologist and the executive medical director of Eastside Neuroscience Institute. “The Eastside used to be a pretty small, kind of quaint area, but that has changed a great deal.”

The institute is a partnership between EvergreenHealth and Overlake Medical Center & Clinics. Neurosurgeons, orthopedic spine surgeons, neurologists, advanced-practice providers and neuropsychologists work together to treat conditions impacting the spine, brain and entire nervous system.

“One of the really cool things about neurology, neurosurgery and spine care is our care is getting better and better all of the time, and our ability to impact things is better,” Dr. Likosky said.

One of the examples of advancement is with the treatment of strokes. Providers are now able to go in and remove blood clots in the setting of a stroke.

“Patients who used to go to nursing homes unable to move, unable to speak, sometimes now leave the next day doing fine,” Dr. Likosky said.

For common conditions like headaches and back pain, there are now advanced treatments, both surgical and nonsurgical.

ENI is also focused on cutting-edge research. The key is to figure out the most effective and least invasive treatments for neurological disorders.

“Really the foundation of much of this is a large research group, and then physicians working together building on that,” he said. “And we’ve continued both. And then with the two hospitals coming together now to really care for our community and our patients.”

If you are experiencing an emergency situation, it’s important to call 911. For all nonemergency conditions or issues, it’s often critical to receive a diagnosis and appropriate treatments as quickly as possible.
