Give new life to your older cabinets

The ShelfGenie team can help make your cabinets more functional, while maintaining the quality of them. Sponsored by ShelfGenie of Seattle.

SEATTLE — Older homes have charm and character, but our storage needs have evolved through the years. That’s where ShelfGenie comes in with custom storage solutions for every home.

“ShelfGenie creates the functionality of a newly remodeled kitchen at a fraction of the cost,” said Alan Regala, ShelfGenie of Seattle director of client happiness.

ShelfGenie works with all styles of homes to allow for easier access to items and to maximize storage space. One solution is creating a trash pull-out under the sink with a glide-out shelf and attached door. This brings functionality to an older cabinet space.

Another solution is angled glide-outs in a corner area. These can replace an outdated Lazy Susan, and they pull out for easier access and more space. Glide-out shelves can also create additional levels in a pantry.

“We end up being able to use the space without having to pile things on top of each other,” Regala said.

ShelfGenie even has solutions in small areas, like RVs, where space is a premium. Oftentimes the cabinets are thin, but ShelfGenie knows how to mount shelves so they’re secure.

For older cabinets where the quality is good, but the look may be outdated, Regala recommends painting or refinishing them while adding ShelfGenie’s glide-out shelves.

“These cabinets that were built back in even the '80s and even earlier are much better quality than a lot of the cabinets that are made today, as far being out of real wood versus particle boards and other things,” he said. “It’s nice to be able to keep the structure and just fix up the insides like what we do.”

The changes make a big difference and add functionality for clients, while also creating a new look.
