SEATTLE — The Seahawks held the Arizona Cardinals to just six points in a divisional win at Lumen Field on Sunday. With the win, the Seahawks took back first place in the NFC West.
“It had kind of a little playoff atmosphere, not just for the fans but for the players as well,” Terry Hollimon said. “They knew what was at stake and being number one in the conference, big deal for these guys to come out and win.”
The defense had a stellar day, only allowing two Arizona field goals and sacking Kyler Murray five times.
“The front seven are doing a great job of getting after other teams’ quarterbacks,” Hollimon said. “The defensive secondary is doing a great job covering guys. They’re making it tough on opposing offenses.”
Cornerback Coby Bryant had a 69-yard pick-six in the third quarter. He capped it off by paying homage to Marshawn Lynch with his celebration.
The Seahawks offense didn’t have one of its best days, but they were able to make plays when it mattered most. This included a key eight-minute drive in the fourth quarter that ended with a field goal, making it a two possession game.
“It was a crucial, crucial drive, and they made the most of it,” Hollimon said.
Though many players stepped up in the win, defensive end Leonard Williams is Hollimon’s player of the game. Williams ended the day with six tackles and two-and-a-half sacks.
“He was in the Arizona Cardinals backfield all day,” he said. “He had four hits on Kyler Murray, which is tough to do because he’s rather elusive.”
The Seahawks will look to continue their win streak as the team travels to East Rutherford, NJ to take on the 3-8 Jets on Sunday.
“It’s really like a clown car over there,” Hollimon said. “If you watch the Jets play, they find a new and impressive way to lose every single week.”
Though Hollimon says on any given Sunday, anything can happen, he believes the Seahawks are disciplined and will be ready to go.
“They know what’s at stake,” he said. “They’ll go into New York and come out with a W.”
