Hawk Zone: Seahawks beat the Dolphins to stay undefeated

The Seahawks defense gave up just three points in a dominating performance at Lumen Field. Sponsored by Muckleshoot Casino Resort.

SEATTLE — The Seahawks improved to 3-0 with a 24-3 win over the Miami Dolphins on Sunday. One notable aspect of the game was the many penalties, totaling 11 for each team.

“It seemed like for a certain period of the game nothing was happening,” Terry Hollimon said. “No football was actually being played. They just kept throwing flag after flag.”

Despite the penalties, the Seahawks defense led the team to an impressive victory, tallying six sacks on the day.

“It’s unbelievable that they kept them out of the end zone and no touchdowns,” Hollimon said.

The offense also put together a solid performance in the dominating win. Geno Smith threw for 289 yards and a touchdown but was plagued by two interceptions.

“He tries to play outside of himself sometimes,” Hollimon said. “When he gets in trouble, he tries to make this big play.”

With starting running back Kenneth Walker III out, Zach Charbonnet stepped up in a big way. He ran for 91 yards and two touchdowns.

“He’s a big, strong, powerful back, so he gets better as the game goes along, as the defense starts to get worn down,” Hollimon said.

DK Metcalf also had another productive day. He caught four passes for 104 yards, including a 71-yard touchdown.

“Happy DK, happy Seahawk day,” Hollimon said.

Despite great performances on offense, Hollimon named the entire defense his player of the week. Holding the Dolphins to just three points was key to victory.

“Guys were making plays all over the field,” he said.

The Seahawks will be in the national spotlight as they take on the Lions on Monday Night Football. The Lions have some star players, including quarterback Jared Goff and receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown, but Hollimon has confidence in the Seahawks’ ability to go 4-0.

“It’s going to be a challenge for that defense, but I think they’re going to be up to it,” he said.
