Hawk Zone: Seahawks drop to 3-2 with loss to the Giants

Despite a disappointing game all around, the Seahawks will look to bounce back on Thursday against the 49ers. Sponsored by Muckleshoot Casino Resort.

SEATTLE — The Seahawks had challenges on both sides of the ball Sunday, resulting in a 29-20 loss to the New York Giants at Lumen Field.

“I think probably a few of these guys had this upcoming game on their mind because this week is a Thursday game,” Terry Hollimon said. “It’s a short week, and we have to play our heated rivals, the San Francisco 49ers. Maybe a few guys had that game on their mind, but I think most were professionals about it and only thought about the Giants.”

The offense wasn’t able to find its rhythm, and running back Kenneth Walker III ended the day with just 19 rushing yards. Quarterback Geno Smith was also under pressure for much of the game, getting sacked seven times.

“You talk about this O-line, and it’s been the Achilles heel of this team for a few years now, and it didn’t get any better this year, obviously, because of the number of injuries they have upfront,” Hollimon said.

The defense also struggled, giving up 129 rushing yards to backup running back Tyrone Tracy Jr. Quarterback Daniel Jones also had two passing touchdowns. Hollimon says there were a lot of missed tackles and players out of position throughout the day.

Hollimon noted one particular bright spot on defense, though. His player of the game is linebacker Jerome Baker. He knocked the ball free at the goal line, allowing for a fumble recovered for a touchdown, and ended the day with 14 tackles and one sack.

The Seahawks will face the 49ers on Thursday Night Football after a short week of practice. The 49ers have had a disappointing start to the season, with unexpected losses and injuries.

“They’re still a solid team,” Hollimon said. “They’ve got good pieces, and they’re looking for a win. Of course they want to beat the Seahawks. They need a win really bad. They’re 0-3 in the NFC, so it’s a dangerous game.”

Hollimon says if the Seahawks play the way they should, he still expects it to be a win for the Hawks.
