SEATTLE — Not only did the Seahawks lose to the Packers 30-13 on Sunday, but they also lost starting quarterback Geno Smith in the second half. Terry Hollimon says Geno has gotten criticism this year for his play, but fans got a glimpse of what the team would look like without him.
“Be careful what you wish for because Sam Howell got in there and had one of the worst professional games a professional football player has ever had,” he said.
The team is hoping to get Geno back soon, as test results showed positive news of no structural damage.
The Seahawks defense gave up 20 points in the first half, and the team had to play from behind the entire game. Hollimon says the Packers had a great game plan and were able to run the ball successfully. Defensively, the Seahawks weren’t able to control the line of scrimmage.
“The Packers are a really good football team,” Hollimon said. “They’ve won a lot of football games this season.”
One bright spot on offense for the Seahawks was Hollimon’s player of the game, wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba.
“When the Seahawks did need to have a play, he was there making that play,” Hollimon said.
Smith-Njigba had 10 receptions for 83 yards on Sunday, leading the Seahawks in receiving yards. He now has 994 yards this season in just his second year in the NFL.
“He’s going to be one of the greats,” Hollimon said. “He’s already one of the greats.”
The Hawks fell to 8-6 with the loss, and the Rams took over the lead in the NFC West. The 11-2 Minnesota Vikings will be in Seattle Sunday for another tough matchup.
“The Vikings are probably one of the top two teams in the NFC, and they’re probably not number two,” Hollimon said.
Vikings quarterback Sam Darnold and running back Aaron Jones have been putting up big numbers this year, and the defense shines in key moments.
“The Seahawks, hopefully they can come together this week,” Hollimon said. “Rally themselves around whoever is going to be the quarterback and come with their best game.”
