SEATTLE — Though Geno Smith was missing key lineman George Fant and star running back Kenneth Walker III, he was still able to lead the offense to a 23-20 win against the Patriots on Sunday. He ended the day with 327 yards passing and no interceptions.
Receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba caught 12 of those passes from Geno, totaling 117 yards.
“He was there when Geno Smith needed him the most,” Terry Hollimon said. “Whenever we needed to convert a third down, whenever we needed a big play, he was there. He had his best day as a Seahawk.”
DK Metcalf led the receivers with 10 catches for 129 yards and a touchdown. These two stellar receiving performances helped the Seahawks get the win, as the defense struggled with missed tackles.
“The Patriots came out with a pretty good game plan,” Hollimon said.
The Pats remained dedicated to the run game and were able to total 185 yards on the ground. Hollimon says the Seahawks defense will focus this week on overcoming the issues they faced against the run.
“I just think it was just an anomaly,” he said. “I think they’ll be able to pick that up this weekend.”
Though Smith-Njigba and Metcalf had key performances, Hollimon’s player of the game is Geno Smith.
“He took control of the ball,” he said. “He took care of the ball. No interceptions and ball control. Geno Smith had a great day.”
The Seahawks will be back at home this Sunday against the Miami Dolphins, who will be missing quarterback Tua Tagovailoa. Hollimon says the Dolphins still have dangerous weapons, including wide receiver Tyreek Hill.
“He’s very good, so the Seahawks are going to have their hands full with him,” he said. “But I do feel like the Seahawks are going to be successful.”
