Hawk Zone: Seahawks show resilience in win against Jets

After some special teams miscues early in the game, the Seahawks gave up no points to the Jets in the second half. Sponsored by Muckleshoot Casino Resort.

SEATTLE — The Seahawks are in sole possession of first place in the NFC West after a 26-21 road win against the Jets at MetLife Stadium.

“We are 7-0 inside that stadium, and it’s versus the Jets and the Giants,” Terry Hollimon said. “I guess it’s our lucky place. We love New York.”

In the first half, the Seahawks had major special teams issues. The team fumbled two kickoff returns and allowed a Jets kickoff return for a touchdown. Despite these mistakes, the Seahawks did enough to win.

“There’s no style points in the NFL,” Hollimon said. “You get a win or a loss, but that’s it.”

In addition to sacking Aaron Rodgers twice, defensive end Leonard Williams had a legendary pick-six. He ran the interception back 92 yards for a touchdown.

“Defensive linemen, they never get their hands on the ball unless maybe it’s a fumble,” Hollimon said. “But to catch an interception and have the ability to make it all the way to the end zone, once in a lifetime opportunity.”

The defense gave up no points in the second half, holding Aaron Rodgers to under 200 yards passing. On the offensive side of the ball, Jaxon Smith-Njigba again had the most receiving yards.

“He’s one of the best slot receivers in the National Football League right now,” Hollimon said. “I think he’s the best.”

Kenneth Walker III was held to just 49 yards rushing, as the offensive line struggled to create holes for him.

“Offense has some things they need to improve on,” Hollimon said. “Defense is still looking great.”

Hollimon’s player of the game is Leonard “Big Cat” Williams for the second week in a row.

“Any time a big guy like that gets a pick-six, he has to be the player of the game.”

The Seahawks are headed to Arizona this weekend to play the Cardinals again, and the defense will work to contain quarterback Kyler Murray.

“It’s going to be an opportunity for the Seahawks to put the nail in the coffin in the NFC West,” Hollimon said.

Hollimon says the Seahawks will have to clean things up on special teams and take care of business at the line of scrimmage to win this game and others in the future.
