Hawk Zone: Seahawks back on top of NFC West with win over the Falcons

SEATTLE — The Seahawks got a convincing 34-14 road win in Atlanta against the Falcons on Sunday.

“It was a colossal beat down on the Falcons,” Terry Hollimon said. “I was one of the ones that thought maybe this would be a tough game for the Seahawks because they’re going to Atlanta. They often lose it. It’s a hard place to play down in Atlanta.”

The defense came out strong, holding Kirk Cousins and the Falcons offense to 14 points and securing three turnovers. Key players, like Byron Murphy Jr. and Boye Mafe, came back from injuries to have a big impact on the game.

“We did have some injuries in the secondary where guys were missing, but the big beefy guys up front were able to hold it down, and that’s where you want things to happen,” Hollimon said.

On the offensive side of the ball, the Hawks looked impressive and gave away no turnovers. DK Metcalf had four catches for 99 yards and a touchdown. Though he left the game on a cart with a knee injury, he’s not expected to be out long-term.

Kenneth Walker III also had a strong game, scoring two touchdowns, one rushing and one receiving. Walker, who celebrated his birthday Sunday, is Hollimon’s player of the game.

“He had an incredible game,” he said. “We’ve been waiting to see the running game for the Seahawks get off, and they did finally.”

The 5-2 Buffalo Bills come to town Sunday, and the Seahawks will have to face quarterback Josh Allen and newly acquired star receiver Amari Cooper.

“Josh Allen is known around the league as one of the top quarterbacks that are playing football right now,” Hollimon said. “He’s athletic. He has a great arm.”

The Hawks will look to have another standout defensive performance at Lumen Field in front of the 12s.
