FEDERAL WAY, Wash. — An ancient style of eating is getting a new twist in Federal Way. Hot Pot World Rotary serves individual bowls of hot pot to customers. But instead of being served the ingredients that go into your hot pot, the food comes straight to you by a conveyor belt the owner built himself.
If you've never had hot pot before it's a bowl of heated broth that's either shared or served individually. You add raw ingredients like meat, seafood and vegetables, and they cook in the broth to make a comforting soup.
“They come out on green, red and yellow plates and each color has its own price. So, if you get egg noodles on a blue plate, that's $2.50. You get to choose how you want to cook it," said Thao Phan with Hot Pot World Rotary.
There are too many delicious items on their menu to list, but some of the highlights include crab legs, sliced beef, bok choy, pork belly and shitake mushrooms. You cook it all in a bowl of one of the eight different broths they make.
"In Asian culture, it's traditional to have meals with your family together at a dinner table and hot pot is one way to bring the family together and enjoy a shared meal," Phan said.
The place has become popular, especially for folks who've never had hot pot before.
"I think most of our customers are used to eating hamburgers, tacos, or pizza but hot pot is something they haven't tried before and I think it spices up their lives a little bit," Phan said.
Hot Pot World Rotary is located at 2020 S 320th St Suite G, Federal Way. They are open every day from 11:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
