SEATTLE — Affordability and value are top of mind for many grocery shoppers, especially this time of year. The New Day team was challenged by Amazon Fresh to compete in a “Supermarket Sweep” to buy all of the ingredients needed for a charcuterie board at the lowest cost.
The Orange Team with Kelly Hanson and Joseph Suttner and the Blue Team with Suzie Wiley and Terry Hollimon competed against each other. Each team had to shop for one cheese, meat, fruit, cracker or bread and vegetable option.
The contestants headed into the aisles to strategize and shop from the large selection of fresh produce, national brand favorites and Amazon’s own private labels to build their baskets and score extra savings.
“We’re going for affordable, good value but elevated” Suttner said.
The teams could also compete in challenges to win discounts to lower their final total at checkout.
Customer tip: When you visit the pickup and returns counter at an Amazon Fresh store, you can score an extra discount on groceries too.
“It’s a great way to save even more on your next shopping trip,” said Griffin Buch of Amazon Fresh.
Amazon Fresh’s weekly circulars also show you grocery essentials that have extra discounts, and the carts at the store have technology that allows you to track your total as you shop.
“It was cool to see how much you were spending as you were going,” Hanson said.
Hanson and Suttner’s Orange Team came through with the win for most affordable cart, but the best charcuterie board winner is up for debate.
