SEATTLE — The Seahawks got a big win on the road this week to get to 4-3 on the season. They are now the only team in the NFC West with a winning record.
“It was incredible,” Terry Hollimon said. “Everything finally kind of clicked for the Seahawks. They got the offense rolling, which has been rolling all year under Geno Smith. But most importantly, they got the defense going, which has been the Achilles heel of this team all season.”
All three facets of the game, offense, defense and special teams, were strong. Hollimon credits the improvement on defense to several things, including better communication.
“They started holding each other accountable,” he said. “Started communicating better, and things are coming together for them.”
Rookie Kenneth Walker III had another impressive day with 168 yards rushing and two touchdowns.
“We saw him make some of the best runs we’ve seen since Marshawn Lynch has been here,” Hollimon said. “He’s running his tail off.”
Geno Smith put up productive numbers again, completing 20 of 27 passes for 210 yards and two touchdowns. The offensive line protected Smith well and allowed for explosive running back play.
“They’re just doing a great job keeping Geno upright and creating holes for our running backs,” Hollimon said.
DK Metcalf left the game with a knee injury, and Marquise Goodwin was able to step up with two touchdown receptions. A former Olympic long jumper, he’s quick and has a vast catch radius.
“He’s been a great addition to this team,” Hollimon said. “He’s been waiting to break out.”
The Seahawks will face the 6-1 Giants on Sunday with star running back Saquon Barkley.
“Don’t let him get going, because if he does, it can make it a long day for these Seahawks,” Hollimon said.
The Seahawks defense is key and is coming together at the right time.
